Fragrant Nocturn

Pearland, Texas

This is a tropical epiphyte that everyone in the neighborhood enjoys. The only problem is that it starts to open at 10 PM and isn't fully opened until about midnight. The fragrance is heavenly, stong but not overwhelming. This flower wasn't completely open, but when it was it measured 8" across the petals. There were over a dozen flowers open this night. The sight was truly something to see and inhale.

Capturing a good image is somewhat problematic as the flowers do not respond well to any light, and one does need light in order to focus the camera properly.
