07July05 Scarlet Tanager

Ledyard, CT

Photo a Day, Day 100...Decided to walk around a bit with the 100-400 lens today and heard this bird which was perched WAY up in a Maple Tree. Was quite surprised when I looked him up as apparently he is a difficult bird to spot/view (According to Audubon Society book). He was quite NOISY, singing up a storm and going from branch to branch! A happy little bird!
There are some more of him in a Scarlet Tanager gallery I made up: http://www.pbase.com/cjburianek/scarlet_tanager

Adobe Camera Raw, Neat Image to reduce some ISO800 noise

Lovely colour ... and it was nice of him to sit still for your shot! ;)

Thanks Steve - I resized it!
Yesterday Tom and I took shots of different Swallowtail Butterflies ( I had a Pipe Vine and he had a Tiger) and I was commenting on all the cool photo opportunities he seems to come by with his 100-400 and how perhaps I should actually walk around with mine (I typically don't as it is HEAVY!). So I took it out today and this is what I came across. So the finding an Indigo Bunting is more of a friendly challange/banter...

Just a note about the large image size. If your max dimention is 800 pixels or less, pbase won't compress or change anything for the large image display.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the mouth-set on it. LOL at Tom Darby--can't please him enough.

What a great picture of a subject who does not take commands. You could not have asked for a better shot.

These birds are breath taking, I have never seen one this close before!
Now can you find an Indigo Bunting! : )
