Swallowtail caterpillar

Wisconsin

I went out today and found that my pot of herbs had turned into a butterfly nursery.
This one is for my grandkids in the Carolinas. They just watched this happen on their dill plants.

I'm hoping Petesie can help by identifying which butterfly we are working on here.

Excellent, Cindy. I found one somewhat similar to this hanging from the bill of my cap Sunday when I was shooting in a forest.

Looks like a series of eyes running the length of its torso. Can't sneak up on this one. Great shot. Voting

Looks like an anise swallowtail to me. I shot one a few days ago which had the same pattern, but was a little darker shade of green. You can compare at http://www.pbase.com/bwick/image/6381329

Very nice macro Cindy. I think it's a monarch but not quite. Anyone?

Lovely image Cindy. He looks like a little bandit that has just been caught and is worried you are about to tell him off. I like the way you have isolated him from the background by getting the max DOF.
