Yes Ian, this shot illustrates it quite well - although it was taken earlier. Although the persective is very different, this is the same area. I was in a little valley (more of a dip/shelf) just on the other side of the ridge the line that splits this scene horizontally in half. The avalanche danger 2 days ago was much much less than when this shot was taken. Not only were the cornices not so large and overhanging, the snow is quite settled now. I would definitely not go in the same area when this shot was taken. Cindy

The shadows show just how much of an overhang there is. Easy to see how an avalanche can get started.
