I have been to the Tall Stacks Festival for three years in a row: the first was as a sixth grade volunteer at my son's school. I loved the event so much then I determined to return as a volunteer costumed stroller, which I did in 2003. I participated again in 2006 with my son strolling with me one of my volunteer days. I enjoy attending each time the festival is celebrated because it brings the Ohio River, what life could have been like along the water, and Cincinnati's rich history alive. I am not a Cincinnati native but have always been interested in the river history, the underground railroad, studying Levi Coffin's abolitionist work in Cincinnati from 1847-77, and how the Ohio River featured in the underground railroad movement. The Tall Stacks photos posted here capture the beauty and splendor of the river boats that come from all parts of the country to participate each festival. The people enjoy the festivities, they ask me each season if I can pose for a picture as it adds ambiance to the event, I enjoy the school children's enthusiasm and energy learning something new, something special about their city, and the volunteer program is well attended, well planned making it fun and easy to participate. I would encourage this event for anyone wanting to attend, wanting to volunteer.
