Seoul looks so different from when I lived there in 1969 and 1970 with ox carts in the streets, hardly any privately-owned autos and no subway. The tallest building was the 5 story Bando Hotel. The Koreans have certainly come a long with hard work. If it hand't been for the Korean War, the entire peninsula would have been like North Korea.
I have heard that the Mapo Apartment complex and Mapo neighborhood where I lived between Namsan and the river was levelled for the Olympic Stadium. Is that true?
I have never seen pictures from South Korea before. The stark contrast between these and photos I've seen of North Korea's capital, PyongYang, is remarkable.
