Mt. Lookout's is one of Cincinnati's 52 neighborhoods. It is
an upscale neighborhood that has many styling cues similar to Hyde Park.
Mt. Lookout's homes and condominiums are well preserved and attractive.
Alms Park is located in Mt. Lookout, and the area is close to Lunken
Park, Ault Park and downtown.
Mt. Lookout is home to the nation's oldest fully operational observatory
founded in 1842. Mt. Lookout Observatory, operated by the University of
Cincinnati physics department, remains a hidden treasure that only 3,000
visitors tour the facility each year.
This is a great collection of images that truly do represent all the city has to offer!
Just a short update on the Observatory.
While the University still owns the property, the Cincinnati Observatory Center was founded in 1997 as a separate non-profit to oversee the restoration of the buildings and develop educational programming.
For over 160 years the Observatory has presented astronomy programs and telescope viewings for the citizens of Cincinnati. In recent years the Observatory has expanded its school, scout, teacher training and continuing educational programs. Last year over 20,000 visitors experienced the unique setting and amazing history of the Observatory. In 2006 over 10,000 middle and secondary school age children were introduced to the science of astronomy through the Observatory. Slowly but surely people are finding this hidden treasure much of it thanks to support from members of the community like yourself.
