Grew up In ESTL ..born @St Marys hospital...went to St Joseph elementary...then to Assumption HS..remember when we beat East Side in 1960 East St Louis was a great city to grow up in. played till the street lights came on..summer nights at Jones park swimming pool...went to 10th street tech. (SIU). ..dad worked at Sears on 10th street.
Worked summer jobs at Grand Maria's GC,Granite City Steel and Estl stone. ESTL was a great city back in the 50, 60 and 70s. Too bad that so much has changed.

My mom would work at Union clothing store during the Christmas season to make extra money.

I remember Union's & Al's. My grandpa bought Easter suits each year for my brother and me from one of these stores back in the early 60's. He bought his clothes from there and was always "sharp"! I get some of my sense of style from him! Thanks granddaddy!

Yes many memeories spring right up at you while looking at these pictures. UNION'S was the place. My high school graduation suit was purchased there and many of my other clothes that were not purchased from there came from the Goodwill clothing industries, they were old but clean. The fifties those were the days we shall never see again, i remember them well....
10cent movies...5cent candy bars..doughnuts 3 for a dime 2 for a nickel.

Franklin Union was a good clothing store. I can remember my mom turning in a book of eagle stamps + a quarter and getting me a new pair of Levi's, but this was back in the fifties.

Way back in the Day 1970-77 This use to be Franklin Union...Lots of stores use to be on hit here too..You can find the badest outfit to go to one of the club just a few feet from the store..Also at Christmas time it use to be lit up with Christmas Decorations...
