I lived in Detroit for 30 years (1972 - 2002) and it turned into a total shithole. A ghetto wasteland with vacant lots high crime. Thank God I escaped. Detroit started a great comeback in 1986 but crack cocaine put an end to that real quick. The Detroit area is too segregated and racist to make any real progress. The auto industry is down the drain and unemployment is rising. Houses are real cheap there. But living there in the 70's and early 80's wasn't that bad, lots of great memories. Kwame is trying but he doesn't have much to work with. You cant put syrup on shit and call it pancakes. Northland Mall (the first mall in America) is so bad they have a police station INSIDE the mall! Now thats GHETTO!

Theres plenty of good and plenty of bad in Detroit, just like every other city
The problem with Detroit is EVERYONE that could fled to the suburbs and left Detroit behind to decay...still its got plenty of great treasures left

Ah, my beloved Detroit, my hometown. Even after such devastating decline and loss, it still is appealing. I moved there in 1980, so I never really got to see it in its prime, but with all the resurgence, glory may not be so far away.

Detroit had some hard times but under Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, it is making the nation's most dramatic urban comeback.

Detroit is ghetto through and through. You take great photos. But the Detroit skyline just hides what is going on behind it. Detroit is decaying all over.

Detroit is a great city. It is really changing from the looks of things.
