Butt Sliding

Neko Harbour, Antarctica

Exercising the "not by me but of me" clause.
This was the fast way down, after climbing
to see one of the finest views anywhere,
and yes I did have my camera in my lap.
Probably not the smartest thing I've ever done,
but when am I going to get another chance?
The same logic I used the next day
to justify polar plunging in 29F water.

It was less fun for at least one person, who injured an ankle or knee during their descent. Gotta know how to apply those brakes, I guess. And perhaps be just a little lucky.

Good decision - looks like fun.

Right, it was summer! While temperatures of -30C are common in Antarctica's interior year-round, conditions are much milder along the peninsula. The top of the hill we climbed was probably the coldest we experienced. Wind chills there were close to zero. Otherwise, the weather was warmer than back home in Michigan. So while a white Christmas is guaranteed in Antarctica, visitors need not be prepared for a (at least by my standards) deep freeze.

December 25 in Antarctica, no doubt one of the hottest days of the year so what did the Mercury peak out at.... -30C. Paul
