I'm enjoying this discussion between the two of you. Very informational, spilt glass of water.... Who knew.... Really who knew! I know the week I was there in early June several years back it was cold and rainy. Dang pretty part of he country tho. One of my favorites but the traffic almost competed with Los Angles... Almost. And when the mountain finally showed, well nothing I can say except for WoW what a scene. Paul

Oh, and my wife suggests Shoreline. We live about 10 miles north of the center of Seattle, and Shoreline is about 2 miles north of us. She says it has good schools and lower taxes. It also has our favorite grocery store (Central Market, Google it), and it has a convenient (free) park & ride that can allow you to take a bus downtown.

OK. Three things I want to say about Seattle. 1. I like to tell people that I moved here because you can stand on a mountain, in a forest, and see an ocean. 2. We have gorgeous summers, meaning that it seldom gets over 85, that nobody has air conditioning, and that the skies are blue for about 90 days in a row. 3. They say it rains for many of the days of the year, but what they don’t say is that if someone spills a glass of water on the ground we count that as a rainy day.

Sierra - good luck. These are always tough, but fun, decisions.

This is true, but I don't think I'd like to be that far from loved ones, or the pacific. I would move to San Francisco if I was rich, or even the outskirts......if they didn't get sooo hot. Seattle seems to meet all my expectations, and more.....now it's up to the right living situation, and job for my fiance.

Sierra - lots of places in the US fit the description you wrote. Even the Minneapolis area would work for you, except the reputation for cold days might get you. Winters are warming, but it will never be like Seattle in temp. But we have lots of sun, trees, and lakes.
My kids and grandkids live in a suburb call Richfield - very diverse, very affordable, with very good schools, and a great place to raise a family. Unemployment is also relatively low.

No we haven't visited in February or July.........and a valid point, though our current position in Reno, NV is too extreme weather for us, constant 100's, down to 30's, and before that I lived in Lake Tahoe where it wasn't unusual to have 10 feet of snow outside. We never seem to get the 40's, 50's, 60's, or 70's that I love about Seattle. But I also want to move there so my son will grow with some diversity, and be able to know what trees are lol, can you tell how much I hate the desert? Anyway I always appreciate any suggestions from a local, so my ears are always open =).

There are many neighborhoods here that would fit that description. But “better” and “affordable” are very subjective terms. Also subjective are the issues of proximity to work and commuting means. And then there is the matter of school preferences. Have you visited the city in both February and July? There are major differences in the weather throughout the year, and it is best to see both the good and the bad, before making a decision. Where would you be moving from?

Nice Charlie! I take it you live in Seattle? My family and I are looking to relocate there. What are some of the better family areas, that are affordable, if you don't mind me asking?

Good one. It is certainly a landmark.
