1st - Cold and Wet - by Michael Kilpatrick

Some friends and I drove 150 km on Sunday to a seaside town called Lorne to shoot the pier, a nearby waterfall called Erskine Falls and anything else that we could find. It rained and rained (and it's the middle of Winter in the Southern Hemisphere) so we were cold and wet. The rain eased off a couple of times, one of which was at sunset, so we got some long exposures of the waves breaking through the rocks.
The weather sealing on my OM-D and 12-50 lens got a workout and both were unaffected.
Maybe this is a bit rule-of-thirdsish though.

Really nice Michael. The weather sealing on the OM-D was a critical factor in my choice (having had three problem cameras that didn't handle my travelling particularly well).

There are other 'rules' or 'guides' that we seem to notice in compositions, like the Diagonal Rule, the Diagonal Method and the Golden Ratio, and I think these sometimes give a hint of ROT even when it isn't there. This image has strong correlation to the Diagonal Rule, and I think that may be what you are picking up on. Definitely qualifies in eligible for me.

Fine shot & composition for this challenge. The pier, certainly the main subject, is well off the 1/3 lines. The rocks are somewhat diagonal, and though crossing a 1/3 line, are not in any way "rule of 1/3s.
I like the way the 6 sec exposure added the silky feeling to the waves.

From my perspective this is the perfect composition for this image. Paul

Beautiful image Michael, and I don't really see "the" subject at an intersection of two thirds lines, so I'd say it's on topic. Lovely capture!
