CIC 85: The next topic will be "Circular Photos" - Dealing with shapes again but with a bit of a twist.


Lenses are round but sensors are rectangle. Imagine what the photo world would be like if all cameras had round sensors making all photos round.

The theme of your photos can be anything you want but the final image itself MUST BE ROUND. This can be accomplished with any basic photo editor with an Elliptical Marquee tool. For a better understanding please have a look at the 3 images I've upladed for each folder. This should help explain what I'm looking for.

To make things more interesting, when you make the elliptical image you're going to end up with white areas around the rounded image making the image look like a white square with your circled image in it. We really don't want that. We'd like it to match the theme color of the gallery. You can use your Paint Bucket tool to fill the background layer (which is defaulted to White in Photoshop) to make the image appear round here in the Pbase galleries. Set the Foreground color using the CMYK color codes as follows:

C - 73%
M - 67%
Y - 65%
K - 78%

This will make the photos appear round without any other visible color making the image look square in the galleries.

If this is way over your head (and it might be for some) then don't worry about it. but if you know what you're doing please, by all means, change that background color to match the gallery background color. It'll make the photos in this challenge look really cool.

Composition Reminder: Because we're making round images from rectangular photos, make sure that you compose your shots with roundness in mind. Don't use the whole viewfinder for your composition otherwise you'll end up leaving something out in Post due to the circled cropping.
