Mt St.Helen errupted on May 1980. The trigger was a 5.1 quake underneath the volcano. A total of 1314 feet was removed from the original 9677 feet mountain. Nearly 150 square miles of forest was blown over or just left dead standing. Most of the dead trees have been cut down to salvage the wood, except for those that are closer to the volcano.
