So Close

We're trying to catch a groundhog who has taken up residence under our porch.

He twitched his nose at me this morning while happily munching acorns in the sun.
I grabbed my camera and he disappeared.
I moved from window to window, slowly, until I found him again.
He had been drawn to the broccoli in the trap and was nibbling at it, but from outside the cage!
He sniffed at the door for awhile, peering at the broccoli within, but not crossing the threshold.
He circled the cage, tried nibbling from the side again, and pushed against the bars.
He backed off, examining from a distance. He moved slowly closer and sniffed the door one last
time before casting a wistful look at the broccoli and waddling away.
