South Luangwa National Park

The best park in Zambia, but the road to the park is a grueling five hours to travel a mere 70 km. This park is the best in Africa to spot leopards. But there are also numerous elephants, lions, impalas, birds, hippopotami, crocodiles, baboons and monkeys. We had hippos, elephants and giraffes crash though our campsite at various times throughout the two nights, and the vervet monkeys were always steeling our food.

South Luangwa became a park in 1972 and covers about 9000 sq km, about the same size as Yellowstone National Park, or Devon and Cornwall combined. We saw only a saw fraction of the park during two game drives, one night drive and one early morning drive.
