Cosmeston Medival Village

It is a time of bloodshed and disease. King Edward III rules the land at war. The conflict with France (the Hundred Years War) is in it's twelfth year and Britain is slowly recovering from the Black Death of 1348, which killed almost half the people!

In Wales, over two hundred years of struggle has seen the Kings of England overthrow the last bastians of independent rule. Llewellyn, the last Prince of Wales lies cold in his grave these past seventy years. Wales is a melting pot of lands controlled by the King, his English barons & Welsh Lords of the old blood! The village at Cosmeston grew, in troubled times around the 12th century fortified manor of the Constantin family who were amoung the first Norman invaders of Wales.

By 1320 the village was controlled by the De Caversham family and later the Despencers - Lords of Glamorgan and Earls of Gloucestor.

Today's vistor to the Cosmeston Medival Village will enjoy a 'Living History' experience. See, touch and even smell the past - amongst reconstructed barns, cottages, gardens, villagers in period costume and rare animal breeds of the time. At various times of the year there are re-enactments of various local battles, so both myself and Huw went along to watch the fun!
