Longleat is a country estate near Warminster in Wiltshire, England. It is noted for its Elizabethan country house, maze and landscaped parkland, and for Longleat Safari Park which the collection comprises over 500 animals. The house is set in over 900 acres (3.6 kmē) of parkland, with 8,000 acres (32 kmē) of woods and farmland. It was the first stately home to open to the public, and also claims the first safari park outside Africa.
As a birthday treat from Ellen and Claire, for my sister Ceri, we spent the day there, starting off by driving through the safari park. Quite a lot of the photographs I took from the car were sadly out of focus due to the weather, it rained and it rained, so apologies for the smaller pictures in the gallery. However afterwards things brightened up, and we were able to enjoy the rest of the visit. This included walking around the grounds and viewing other attractions there, such as train rides, boat trips and a walk around Longleat House itself. Travelling around the safari was really good. We got to see the animals in natural habitats - daunting in some places, such as the lion and tiger reserves, where we had to drive into secured (obviously) areas of the park - it felt a bit like Jurrassic Park!! My favourite attraction of the day apart from the safari itself, had to be the trip across the lake, of which the sealions were feed from the side boat. They were so close to use! Despite the weather though, we all had a wonderful day, and it is most definately a place we would revisit in the summer next year! Hope you enjoy the pictures.
