Sunday started off a really hot day, but even though the weather turned a little dull in the afternoon it didnt dampen our spirits as we headed out towards Cowbridge. We parked our cars at the back of the Cowbridge Cattle Market and headed up into the small hamlet of Llanblethian. This small hamlet has some of the most exclusive houses and homes that are located in the Vale of Glamorgan. Walking through beautiful scenery of the Vale of Glamorgan we passed the castle of St Quentins and eventually ended up at Old Beaupre Castle.
St Quintens' Castle stands in a loop of the River Thaw on a low ridge with natural slopes on three slopes. In about 1102 Robert Fitzhamon, the first Norman lord of Glamorgan, granted the small lordship of Llanbethian to Herbert de St Quentin who probably established the first castle on this site. Later in the twelfth century a rectangular stone keep was built; its remains now lie behind the later gatehouse.
On our travels we saw lots of quaint country homes, "Baggins" the Newfoundland dog, and got chased (sort of) by some cows in a field. It was a great day, and here is a good selection of photographs from the walk.
