In July 1913, two ships left England destined to form the Royal Australian Navy ..There was, however, no doubt that the departing ships were "Australian" warships. Immediately after the cheers for the official party, a rating perched astride one of "HMAS" Australia's eight 12-inch guns shouted, 'Three cheers for Wallaby Land'... joining other ships before entering Sydney harbour in October 1913.
October 2013 the RAN and Sydney celebrate the centenary of that historic occasion!
