Haleakala Crater

Over 10,000 feet high, this mountain contains some massive amount of rock. No where else on earth you can drive from sea level to 10,000 feet in less than 37 miles. The crater contains many cinder cones and we visited the closest one, the Ka Lu'u o ka O'o, to the visitor's center by taking the Sliding Sands Trail. The hike was 5 miles round trip and dropped in elevation by 1400 feet which made this by far the most strenous hike during the trip but definitely worth it.
