In September of 2002, we spent nearly a month exploring Peru. Starting in Lima, the capital city, we then flew to Cusco, where we stayed in the Urubamba river valley for a couple days acclimatizing to the high altitude region. From there, we began the amazing Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu. An uncomfortable overnight bus trip led us to Lake Titicaca, where we spent a couple nights living on an island near the Uros floating islands. Finally, we flew to Iquitos, which started our exciting and adventurous trip into the Amazon river basin.
