Tow law Wind Turbines. Co. Durham.

RESIDENTS in a picturesque hamlet are fighting plans for 25 large wind turbines near their homes.

Villagers in High Stoop, near Tow Law, County Durham, are launching a campaign to prevent North-East group HJ Banks from building 20 to 25 turbines along the road from Tow Law to Satley.

They will be to 107 metres high and will be between Satley Conservation Area and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Residents learned of the plans after the company sent letters to properties nearest the proposed site.

Mother-of-two Fiona Ranson, one of the campaign leaders, said: "We are all in a state of shock.

"We moved here because of the beautiful, open countryside, and these windmills ...

UPDATE: 31/12/09 A year since I started this gallery and all the turbines are now in place. The voice of the residents went unheard and more farms continue to prop up accross britain as the Goverment pushes ahead with its plans for renewable energy.
