Canon 50D Test



Testing out the new 50D camera.
Here are some images at various ISO's.
No Noise Reduction applied on images, unless NR mentioned.
Images uncropped, with auto-leveling done with CS3.

can you make the ISO12800 look good ? seems noisy... 6400 is amazing... how lite was that?

I had compared the 5D vs 50D up to ISO1600. 5DMkII uses a bigger sensor, that I think should be better than the 50D where image quality is concerned. But then until the 5DMkII is released into the market, no one knows for sure how well it will perform. We can only wait.

wow thanks for the 6400 pic. so your saying the 50d and 5d noise is similar? but 5d does not go up to 3200 even does it? or are you talking about the new 5d mark III which has the same chip as this one I think? i have the 40d and I shoot a lot outdoors at night and dark clubs and concerts, do you think it is a very good upgrade for me to get from the 40d to 50d? you have some great pics around the web :)

Thanks Gary, I had used a 40D before and I can say that the IQ of the RAW file from the 50D is an improvement over the 40D. That would apply to the 30D too, I assume. I also use a 5D concurrently, and the IQ from the 5D is still better overall, but where noise is concerned they are on par, the 50D and 5D cameras.

adobe just posted new raw update for CS3 to handle 50D...i understand about size...thought i would ask...I have a 30D and wanted to see the difference in RAW as thats pretty much alll i use now.

Gary, RAW files takes up too much space. I'm sure in time to come it will be available on the web. Right now, only Canon's DPP software can handle this RAW file. Not even CS3 with latest updates.
