Samarkand, Tashkent and Ferghana, cities along the Silk Road

Some of my pictures, which I took during my travel to Uzbekistan in 2003. I visited in this year the cities Tashkent, Samarkand and Ferghana. But very important was, that I was able to visit my friends again. Friends which I made on my first journey to this region in 1996. Then I was sick as a chenchena. While sitting on a bench in Ferghana I made some wonderful friends for ever, who cared for me at that time. Since then we are friends forever. I love this part of the world along the silk road. People from Central Asia: Uzbek, Kirgyse, Kazach, Tjai, Russian, Tartar and whatever etnic background are very hospitable. I feel really very connected to my people in this part of the world!
I have added a few pictures, which I took in 1996, my first visit to Central Asia. As this was the pre-digital camera time,I scanned them from slides.

Fabulous gallery and what memories they must evoke for you. Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated by the thoughts of these places. Just the very names, "Samarkand", "Tashkent", the Silk Road, conjure up romantic notions of some of the fabled places on this earth. V
