Bethania Lutheran Cemetery
The Bethania Lutheran Church and Cemetery in Queensland are heritage listed.
At he middle of the 19th century a group of people in East Pommern (now Poland) made their way to Australia.
It was a poverty driven reason to leave Pommern. After an long and horrible journey they arrived in Moreton Bay.
They had to overcome some quarantine problems and after that they went a shore.
The "Germans" got land allocations below the Logan river. That is were they founded Bethania.
August Heinrich Noffke was among the first settlers and the great grandfather of my friend Fay Pasky.
Life was harsh for the immigrants from North-East Europe in the muggy heat of Queensland.
In the Bethania-Beenleigh area one can find the traces back in street names and parks of the pioneers.
