It all began with a visit to see my brother in northern Minnesota. I learned that there was a national scenic highway called "The Great River Road." It simply labels the closest highway to the Mississippi River from it's inception to the Gulf of Mexico. And all the way down are two choices, one on each side of the river! I decided I would try to drive all the way in segments. After several trips I made it all the way through both Arkansas and Mississippi by 2008; but still lacked the Louisiana segment. In April 2010 I finally finished the Great River Road, driving from Natchez, Mississippi to Venice, Louisiana.

This is a wonderful drive and the photos here are just a sampling of what you can see driving down "Old Man River," which is more than 2,500 miles long. I made an 86 page photo book on the drive which still doesn't show everything. This gallery will be even fewer photos but they are presented in geographical order from the beginning of the river to it's mouth in the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy a virtual drive down the river!
