Red-cockaded Woodpecker

Under Construction
These Red-cockcaded Woodpeckers were translocated from northern Florida and Georgia to St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park in Florida. Most nesting cavities are man-made and have been well received by the woodpeckers. Each year an inventory of the birds is conducted...roosting. Later the cavities are checked for the presence of eggs...nesting. While the new-born are between 7 and 10 days old, they are banded...banding. These photos portray this procedure in a pinewood-saw palmetto eco-system that is that is maintained with fire.
