A feral mother cat took up residence in our neighborhood last year. She had a batch of kittens. One of that batch is all that remains, and she herself had kittens earlier this year.

A neighbor and I captured the kittens and found homes for two of them. We planned as well to catch the mother and get her fixed, but she became pregnant again before that was accomplished.

Now that she has had her second batch, I didn't want a repeat of the story. So, the culmination of two months of coaxing and gaining trust resulted in the capture of the mother, her one daughter from the first litter and her eight current babies.

Now, the goal is to get the little ones:

• grown to a healthy state,
• acquainted with people, and
• off to good homes.

Then mother and daughter will be neutered before returning to the neighborhood.
