Etched in Time

I passed this early 1700 building during my lunch and the carvings in the brick caught my interest. It seems during the late 1700 and into the 1800s, it was common for folks to etch their initials and year in the brickwork of public buildings. And we think we have graffiti.

Fantastic light in this image. The inscriptions add butter to what is already a well flavored shot. Vote

in age of old they left immortal mark with style.arisotcratic flair.you cannot say the same for much of today's grafitti.it would be incredible if there were still some descendants in the area.an amazing tribute :-)

Do they not say that history repeats itself, just a tad modified. I cant believe what intersting subjects you see. I just came back from running and I never see cool stuff like that.

all over egypt the same thing....not the pharoahs, but 18th/19th century graffiti from europeans touring/warring. Can give a fascinating history in its own right

Amazing capture LC - Love how you found this beautiful light that accentuates the letter carvings. You live in such a historically rich environment which you photograph beautifully.
