This is the largest free standing statue in the world. (note the people
at the feet of the statue). The sword is taller than the statue of liberty
in New York harbor. It stands on the highest point in Volgograd, and the place
that the Germans were unable to capture during the 180 plus days of fighting.
It was built to honor the battle of Stalingrad and the fallen heros'.
