Monumental figure of Hatshepsut from her Mortuary Temple

35mm slide scanned to CD

These monumental figures once fronted the columns along the terrace of Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple at Dier Bahri on the West Bank of the Nile.
Most were destroyed when her name and reign as Pharoah were erased from Egyptian history following her disappeance and death.
Only one or two restored figures remain in situ. They were originally painted and vestiges of paint can be seen here.
On the first page of this gallery is shown one of the heads from these sculptures that is in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
