Lesson 4 : Mirror Lock, Low Light, Manual Setting

Had some difficulties with this lesson. I got the mirror locked, used a tripod, used the auto timer. Had trouble in the dark and am not sure of manual settings yet. Couldn't get anything but black pictures in the beginning. Fstops, aperature, shutter speed were hard to play with in the dark! I also had dogs and their owners not too thrilled to come upon me in the dark field. I had one dog come up behind me and wolf loudly! Tripod was my only protection. It was so dark, I never saw the barking dog but had a hard time in my lousy German telling the Germans(Mein Duetch is slecht) I was a harmless being in the dark! LOL So I repeated the lesson in Butzbach taking photos of the half-timbered Rat House. Still not great! The instructor asked me to Redo the castles but the weather was not cooperative. So I brought in a flower that broke off in the wind and put a cardboard background behind it. Since this was a low light assignment, I put a small lamp 6-9 feet away on the left of the flower with a dim overhead light even further. Then I experimented. I uploaded where I started and where I went too. I used tripod, mirror lock-up and after the first shot, set custom white balance. Next changed fstops up two and down two. The down two were too blurred to be of value but were bright and not as nice contrast with the background.
