Väinämöinen (The Musician) And His Faithful Audience..

Helsinki Centre

Helsinki, Finland

Väinämöinen is the central character in the Finnish folklore and the main character in the national epic Kalevala. Originally a Finnish god,
he was described as an old and wise man, and he possessed a potent, magical voice. He is playing here
a 'kantele' (from Finnish) or 'kannel', Finnish variant (or from Estonian) which is a traditional plucked string instrument of the zither family.

I'm glad that you explained the figure and his musical instrument. It's fascinating to hear about Finland's mythology. Väinämöinen's posture commands great respect. However, I think that the pigeons have heard this song before. Maybe they perk up for the chorus when they get to join in?

It's a great photo for your animals gallery. Statues are always interesting, but seeing how they are perceived by animals makes it much more fun.
