We should have called it Rick’s Café Americain, because like the fabled dive in the movie,
Ricardo’s is a meeting place, an international crossroads, for artists, beachcombers, gamblers,
divas, drinkers and simple travelers. People come to Ricardo’s on the beach to sip a reflective
Flor de Cana rum, while watching one of San Juan del Sur’s famed sunsets, said to be the most
spectacular in Central America; or to listen to tall tales from anglers and surfers who crowd the
long wooden bar each evening. Unlike Rick’s in Casablanca police raids are at a minimum at
Ricardo’s, as peace prevails in our tiny artists’ haven on the Pacific, and Nicaragua is one of
the least militarized nations in the region. -from the website of Ricardo's Bar
