Anne of Hogwarts

Kit Rushing's daughter, Anne, a 22-year-old recent graduate of Centre
College, costumed as Hogwart's Professor Sybill Patricia Trelawney.
Anne's won the first place costume competition at Chattanooga's Books-
A-Million mid-night gala, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows." --
Saturday morning, July 21, 2007

British actress Emma Thompson played the part of Professor Trelawney in the
Harry Potter motion picture "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."

The attached photograph of Anne in costume is imposed on a photograph the
Rushings took this past summer at England's Alnwick Castle.
Alnwick served in the Harry Potter motion pictures as the exterior shots for
Hogwarts Castle (the school of magic attended by Harry Potter and his
companions.)

And an additional note - Kit's wife Frances taught last summer a young adult
literature of Britian study abroad course titled "From Beatrix Potter to
Harry Potter." The three week course visited a number of English and
Scottish sites important in young adult literature of the UK. This coming
summer, Kit will be teaching a three week course in Scotland titled "A Look
Under the Kilt, a multi- media immersion in the history and culture of
Scotland." The course will focus on documenting through video, still
photography, podcasts, websites, and other media student experiences in
Scotland. The course will be home based at the University of Edinburgh with
field trips to Ayr, Invervess, several of the famous lochs including Loch
Lommand and Loch Ness. Frances is also on tap to repeat with a strong
Scottish emphasis her children's and young adult literature experience -
also home based this time at the University of Edinburgh. Information and
photographs from the 2006 offering of the
young adult literature course are available on Frances' website at:
http://www.utc.edu/Faculty/Fran-Bender/

Both Kit's and Frances' courses are offered through the Cooperative Center
for Study Abroad http://www.nku.edu/~ccsa/). The courses are open to anyone
who wishes to pay the fees. For current college students, the courses are
offered as three-semester-hour, upper- divison credit. The courses may also
be taken for "continuing education units." The cost this past summer for
round-trip from the United States to the UK, lodging, one meal a day, a
BritRail (or
ScotRail) pass, and entry into most museums and major attractions was a
little less than $4,000 (US).

If you, or some person you know, might be interested - send to me the name
and email address, and when the course material is ready sometime in
September, I'll see that they receive the mailing.
