John Meeks

I am still working toward my final ordination. I am nearing the end of my three year probationary period. I go before the Board of Ordained Ministry next week for my final review. It is a two day oral review that includes theology, doctrine, ecclesiology, eductation, psychological, church polity, etc. reiview. At the end of the two days the board tells you if you have passed. In preparation I sent in recorded sermons, a Bible study, responses to theology and doctrine questions as well as completed my second psychological review and physical exam as well as background check. For those who didn't know, to beomce a fully ordained United Methodist minister, the process takes, from start to finish, eight years.

I will be reviewed by the BOM on the 8th and 9th of April (2003), pray for me, or raise a glass for me, whichever you think will help me the most. If I get a favorable vote from the Board, I will be ordained June 2 in Jackson, TN at Annual Conference. The Bishop will put his hands on me this time, (the probationary period is begun when the Bishop Commissions you as a probationer and he holds his hads above your head without actually making contact) and I will be ordained as an Elder in Full Connection in the United Methodist Church.
