This area in Karnataka contains the ruins of a city that goes back to around 1500.
At it's peak it had a population of almost a million and covered an area of several miles.
A traveller from Europe who visited it at the time said it compared favourably to Rome, in many aspects.

The remains now are a pale shadow of what it must have been like, but give a glimse of a tantalising past.
