I think this is a great shot Michael. The fly in focus, the
background out of focus -- the subject very much stands
out. But as well, the leaf and fly seem juxaposed against
slight lighter backgrounds that very much makes the
contrast between subject and background against stand
out well. Also here, there is green in the fly, green in
the leaf and green in the background, and in this particular
image, the play of all the colors in this shots seems to work
quite harmoniously. And finally here, the background tones
seem lighter around the subject and seem to darken towards
the edge of the frame (particularly around the edges of the
picture), and all of this does very well to keep the viewers
attention coming back to the subject matter itself. So truly,
for the combination of how all these elements work together
it seems to me a most wonderful shot that visually communicates
quite strongly.

I was thinking in the same lines as Gary. Just a normal, everyday fly, but it is beautiful. I think I especially like this picture because green is my favourite colour.

Nice colours - beauty in nature is amazing - it's just a fly after all!

From this angle, he's not ugly at all....it's a very interesting shot.
