1) Made a new layer--Used color select to do a rough selection of the background
2) Use quickmask (Q key)
3) Used the brush tool to clean up and refine the back ground selection
4) Turned off quickmask Q again
5) Used curves to lighten the background
7) Made a new layer--Selected the woman's eyes and mouth using the lasso with 4 px feather
8) Applied sharpening to the selected eyes/mouth

Took about 5 minutes but if I was serious I would have spent more time on the selection process
