Legitimate Find?
by CJ Morgan

Rumors are spreading like wildfire today within the
scientific community over this image -- an apparent
sighting of a man reading his camera instruction
manual.

"We're thrilled with this discovery," said Professor
Seymour Argumentum. "We've theorized about this for
a long time, but to finally see it, well, let's just
say it's a milestone day in anthropological studies.

But not all scientists are convinced the photo is legit,
some saying it's just another Big Foot, or Lock Ness
Monster claim. "He could just be reading his morning
prayer book for all we know," said one anonymous source
at the Institute for Anthropological Studies in Alberta,
Canada. "We hear rumors about this sort of stuff all
the time, but the idea of some man actually reading
his camera instruction manual is just totally absurd!"

Prof. Argumentum, however, begs to differ. "I've talked
to the folks who were there at the time." (The apparent
sighting happened near dawn, in March of this year.)
"They report seeing this man setting up his camera,
then reaching into his camera bag, pulling the camera
instruction manual out, reading from it for a moment
or two, then going back to his work with the camera.
And that falls perfectly in line with how we theorized
and predicted this might happen one day!"

While Prof. Argumentum concedes the fact that the picture
itself is not the clearest and that his people still have
to study the image to further confirm it was not doctored
in any way, he nevertheless seems optimistic that his
theory work will now be confirmed and mankind will look
back on this decade with great pride.

"You know, I've been arguing with camera manufacturers for
years that if they keep making their instruments with more
bells and whistles, and keep including a camera instruction
manuals with each of those cameras, then one day some man
might crack one open. And now we've got proof. Or at least
a start. It's not just theory any more, and we're thrilled."

While rumors still abound, the rest of the scientific
community is not so readily convinced. As one source put
it, "The universe is a profoundly mysterious place, we still
have much to learn, and the fanciful hoping that some man has
actually opened a camera instruction manual, let alone read
any part of it, does not necessarily make it so."

I think he is reading a topographic map of Alberta, trying to find the highest point to set up his camera to catch the "good light" of sunrise.

Sadly this is true! I just sold two of my cameras to buy the new 5D MkIII and both had the 'shrink wrapped' manual sitting inside the original box! Oh well, at least I am willing to ask for directions if I am lost : )

Very clever commentary - needed the chuckle after a long day!
