I eyewitnessed couple times something like that. It was really sad and scary. I saw many dead animal bodies after the fire. I'll never forget that. I'm glad that you and your family are all safe after this fire thing Christine.

I can't imagine living with the threat of wildfire (I live in a rain forest). The photo titled "Highway to Hell" is very impressive.

Actually, at the time of this fire, there were so many going on in Southern California, that were worse, and ours was scarey, but I am such an optimist. My Dad was an Los Angeles City Firefighter for 30 years. (I believe the fires began on Oct. 25, 2004. I remember the date, as we were driving home from Nevada, and passed by the begining of three of the four. Weird, huh?) I should post some of the other shots, as we were coming through the Mojave Dessert, near Victorville. There were gigantic white clouds, full of puffy texture and quite beautiful. I thought they were thunderheads at first. Nope...smoke. I, up until then, only witnessed they grey-brown and dusty looking smoke. The shots in the park were so vivid, and to witness the colors in person, I almost felt guilty because my eyes were enjoying the vivid smoke filtered light, causing the greens to really pop (no pun ;). My son lives at Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mountains (don't know where you are), the area was really hit hard, and was ordered to mandatorily evacuate. Basically, there is one good, main road up the mountain...the rim of the world highway, and it truly feels like it as one drives up. There is a back way, down the other side, but is narrower and way out of most everyone's way. Anyway..long story short..he never evacuated (I was so peeved with him), but his house did not burn (not because he was there...just good fortune, and prayer). So here we all are, today. You must have been sweating bulletts (NO PUN INTENDED) over this. I don't how or if you kept your sannity with out devine intervention. Glad you made it through!!

I appreciate your concern..thank you so much. Yes. I was fortunate. The heroic efforts of the Fire Dept. saved the day, not to mention lives and property. There were many in the State (California) not so fortunate.
