Signs are a lost art. Sign writers have been replaced with computer printed images and neon is slowly giving way to florescent tubes behind sheets of plastic. I've been combing the New Orleans area insearch of those few signs left from an age gone by. A time when a sign was more than just a square or rectangle. Signs with character and style that told more than just the name of a business; they took upon a life a life of their own. Sad how few are left.

POST KATRINA NEWS:
Since Katrina hit the city, a few of these signs got damaged or knocked down. The Frostop mug on Carrolton was on the street, half of the Cantonese sign is gone, and the Rite-Way sign is on the sidewalk up against the building. The Venezia Pizza sign and the Ice Cream Parlor next to it are both completely gone. Gone as well are Metaire Cleaners, Suar Bowl Courts, and Texas Motel. Not sure of the condition of the rest.
