Text: About photo subject matter, Craig is diversified, from people, landscape, art, etc., covering a wide range. He explained that many photographers like to focus on a certain photo interest, but I enjoy more diversity, without feeling constrained or less creative. He felt that one should observe the subject’s point of interest, its context and form, and its graphic element, in order to fully express the feeling of the photographer. To Craig, photography is his source of inspiration. Starting from his basic instinct, then going through his thinking and analytical process, and finally turning out a piece of work, rich in expressive value.
Many think that there are no photo opportunities in their near surroundings, but it’s not true for Craig who gets his inspiration from the familiar. Many like travel photography and think that it provides different and interesting shots, but these photos usually turn out to be too common and generalized. Craig explained that unfamiliarity would first appear to be unique and refreshing to the eyes, but after some time, we realize it can many times be quite common. Hence he suggested that we start shooting from our own environment, such as a neighbourhood building or street flora. Due to its familiarity, one ought to be better able to focus on critical detail and structure. [Translated by: AL] |
