These next few pictures show some of the damage to the island from hurricane Ivan,
on September 11th. We saw all this damage on our van tour. The driver said the
island got 175 mph winds with the storm, and I estimate that 90 percent of the
trees on the island were destroyed. They had hurricane force winds for more than
two days. The driver said all the telephone poles were blown down also. His family
evacuated to Atlanta, and another hurricane was threatening there, so they went on
to Chicago to stay with family there.
