This scene was lit with Willie Hunt's xenon strobes (2) synced to my camera. Notice the caver climbing the rope (yellow coveralls) a little over half way up the right wall. The rappel is 228 feet from the typical rigging point. You should note that this is a pit so the only way out is to climb the rope. Sadly, two cave explorers died here while waiting to climb when the huge rock shown on the right fell from the ceiling and crushed them to death. Ironically, they were underneath the ledge to avoid rock fall from above since another caver was climbing above them. The odds are astronomical that this could happen since they did nothing to have caused it. This photo was used on the cover of the 2006 On Rope 1 catalog.
