This scene was lit with a single Sylvania #3B flashbulb. Notice the caver climbing the rope (yellow coveralls) a little over half way up the right wall. The rappel is 228 feet from the typical rigging point.

It's very interesting to see two well-lit views of the pit, affording a side-by-side comparison of two lighting techniques. Both photographs are excellent, but my money is still on the big bulbs! I'm sure it's possible to make a strobe that provides virtually 360-degree light with no hard edges, but I haven't seen one yet.

Both pictures have an appealing balance of natural and artificial lighting. Thanks, Tim.
