Camps Gulf entrance 1

This is the main Camps Gulf cave entrance underwater. There is only about 5 or 6 feet of space left between the water and the ceiling of this huge entrance. The water was still rising as well. This is an amazing amount of water and it only took hours for it to rise to this level.

This was shot in low light about 45 minutes before dark. The model, my wife Janice, fired off one Sylvania #3B flashbulb to lighten the entrance area. The entire Camps Gulf valley floor was under water on this day. To even reach this spot was very difficult. We had to approach from high on the ridge and stay away from the valley floor altogether since it was whitewater everywhere! Most of the time we could not see where to walk for the extremely thick vegetation. Six inches of rain in one day will yield this amount of flooding here. Here is a view of this entrance looking from inside to outside. Notice the caver in the entrance. Everything you see here floods to the ceiling at times! http://www.pbase.com/cavertim/image/14764256
