14th June Lex

This is Lex the Clydesdale horse who works in the wood at Landmark VC.
He pulls logs to the sawmill to show how it was done in days gone by (and they are still used today).
The Clydesdale is an ideal choice for working in the forests because they are smaller than a shire and therefore can move more freely between the trees.
An easy way to tell the difference between the Clydesdale and the Shire horses is that the Clydesdale's white on the back legs goes up over the belly while the Shire has white "socks"
When I worked at the Landmark VC sawmill I had the pleasure of working with Bob, Lex's predecessor, a gentle giant if ever there was one.
