Septic Tank Garden

I brought some plants from my last house. I had a landscaper do some basic work out front and he made a garden over the septic tank! Where you see the canna and birdbath there are hatches to clean out the septic tank. This garden seems to change the most from year to year since many of my plant like to reseed.

What a nice idea! We are looking at buying a house with a septic tank in the yard. I would like to have more plants, rather than just grass to make me think about all of our waste being down there. However, I have heard from several people that you shouldn't plant anything on top of the tank except for grass, so that when it comes time to empty it, you can easily access it. Have the waste removal guys given you any trouble for this?http://www.notestonecss.com/team

This is such a clever idea! I always thought that I just had to deal with the fact that there was a septic tank in my side yard and try to hide it the best that I could. I never would have thought to plant over it. I bet the flowers really thrive on it due to their reseeding. I am definitely going to try this out next spring. Thank you for the inspiration!
